As my habit, I picked up this new book, Vango, I have printed well in mind the cover, I closed my eyes and tried to imagine what it might contain 400 pages waiting for me.
I tried to connect the figure of blimp that hovers just below the title to that of boy running across the rooftops of Paris , looking for a link, then svelatomi from the first page which bears the inscription "between heaven and earth ".
I must say that this dualism This opposition between two elements so important, so strong I was immediately intrigued, and I immediately plunged into reading. Vango
book is certainly very well written, suitable not only for children , but certainly also with the major who love the adventure: the style is full of rhetorical figures (without being heavy) and imaginative similes , and the story flows smoothly, although the plot is quite intricate.
Vango is a guy who is accused of a heinous crime on the very day of his ordination as a priest in front of Notre-Dame . From that moment begins a journey to discover the reason why is inseguito non solo dalla polizia francese, che lo ritiene responsabile dell’omicidio di Padre Jean, suo mentore, ma anche da un uomo misterioso che ha già tentato di ucciderlo.
La narrazione si svolge su due livelli, il presente , ovvero la fuga di Vango, e il passato , a partire dall’arrivo di Vango a Salina , nelle isole Eolie, passando per l’incontro con Ethel , ragazza scozzese innamorata di lui, fino alla decisione di diventare prete.
A fare da sfondo a queste vicende, il ventennio tra le due guerre mondiali , tratteggiato con perizia di particolari, e reso più vivido dall’inserimento di personaggi veramente esistiti, as Hugo Eckener , commander of the legendary Graf Zeppelin , the largest airship in history, or even Stalin .

The most distinctive feature of the story is, in my opinion, Vango's love for the land , per la nuda roccia della sua Salina, e allo stesso tempo per il cielo , rappresentato dalle altitudini dei tetti di Parigi e del dirigibile del capitano Eckener. Anche la contrapposizione tra i colori di questi due elementi, il marrone scuro della terra, e l’azzurro chiaro del cielo sembra accompagnare il racconto, fatto di luci ed ombre, sempre in bilico tra verità e mistero .
Una piccola nota negativa: se da un lato la varietà di figure rende sicuramente avvincente la storia, dall’altra avrei preferito forse un numero minore di personaggi secondari: sembra infatti che la caratterizzazione di alcuni di essi sia stata fatta un po’ frettolosamente dal’autore.
Posso comunque concludere with more votes than positive about this book, I recommend to those who love mystery, adventure, history, but especially those who still love dream.
